DREW CHILD DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION ANNOUNCES RECIPIENTS OF THE FOURTH ANNUAL “IT TAKES A VILLAGE” AWARDS

Seven Southern California Leaders will be recognized for their advocacy and philanthropy.

LOS ANGELES – The Drew Child Development Corporation (Drew CDC) is please to name the winners of the fourth annual “It Takes a Village” Community Awards. The awards recognize leaders and organizations that are transforming the lives of children and making a difference in the Child Advocacy, Education and Welfare community through their philanthropic efforts and leadership.

Drew CDC will celebrate the honorees at a reception on Saturday, April 23, 2016. The event will take place from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the USC University Club at 705 West 34th Street, Los Angeles, CA. Anchor and reporter Elex Michaelson of ABC7 Eyewitness News will serve as Emcee.

The 2016 “It Takes a Village” Honorees are:

  • Byron Scott, Head Coach for the Los Angeles Lakers – Community Empowerment Award James T. Butts,
  • Jr., Mayor of the City of Inglewood – Community Empowerment Award
  • Senator Holly J. Mitchell, 30th Senate District, State of California – Community Visionary Award
  • Mònica Garcìa, Board Member of LAUSD – Champion of Children Award
  • Emily Putnam-Hornstein, Ph.D., Assistant Professor at the USC School of Social Work – Champion of Children Award
  • Headshot300Cherice Calhoun, President of BlackNLA – Community Angel Award
  • Cheryl Fair, President and General Manager at KABC7 – Voice of the Children Award

Drew CDC is proud to recognize leaders from academia, government, media and sports who advocate for South LA’s children. All proceeds from the event will support Drew CDC’s programs and services that create a safe and stable learning environment for young children to develop the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in school and beyond.
