Afterschool Program Assistant Site Coordinator

Since 2001, YPI has served families in Los Angeles at 125 sites throughout the city. YPI has an annual budget of $41 million (including affiliated charter schools) and offers families education and training resources in the areas of afterschool, job training, early childhood education, physical education, adult literacy and ESL, computer literacy, charter schools, and college preparation. YPI also supports efforts to boost the capacity and effectiveness of small grassroots nonprofits that provide essential services for youth. Each year, YPI helps more than 100,000 youth and adults each year through these programs.



Youth Policy Institute (YPI) is seeking a full-time After School Assistant Site Coordinator for its Youth Services department.  The Assistant Site Coordinator will provide support in developing, implementing and assisting with the oversight of the after school program. The primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:



  • Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the after school program
  • Help organize schedule of academic, recreation, and enrichment activities
  • Assist in supervising staff of 4 to 10 tutors, athletics and/or enrichment instructors
  • Support the program site coordinator in organizing and facilitating after school program events and field trips
  • Establish and maintain communication with regular day and after school staff, school administrators, YPI staff, students and families regarding all aspects of student involvement in the program
  • Help to recruit students to ensure daily attendance requirements are sufficient
  • Come in as a sub and conduct a class whenever program is short staffed
  • Follow school and YPI procedures  and policies for safe operation of after school program
  • Assist in conducting surveys for periodic program evaluations, including surveys of students, staff and parents
  • Collect, review, approve and submit timesheets by the deadline
  • Submit all required documentation on a timely basis, including attendance, snack counts, emergency cards, permission forms, and surveys
  • Represent the mission of YPI to provide quality educational and enrichment experiences for students.
  • Travel to and attend staff meeting, school meetings, off-site meetings, trainings and events, as scheduled
  • Maintain accurate records. (i.e. attendance, student registration forms, staff sign-in sheets, etc.)
  • Maintain documentation relating to staff performance issues; provide guidance to staff as needed
  • Pick-up and issue pay checks on pay day
  • Adhere to workplace safety guidelines
  • Evaluate work site for safety concerns to minimize workplace injuries
  • Make recommendations for workplace safety
  • Report workplace injuries via appropriate forms
  • Implement YPI policies and procedures
  • Must wear a staff uniform while on duty.
  • Assist with other duties assigned by the program site coordinator and/or Regional Supervisor


  • Must have high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) or equivalent education, but Bachelor degree preferred.  Copy of diploma and/or degree will be requested, if hired
  • If Bachelor degree still in progress, must be currently enrolled in accredited college or university and have completed a minimum of 18 college credits.  Transcripts will be requested, if hired
  • Must have experience in working with elementary school students
  • Two years of experience working in after school programs
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to supervise and work in a team environment
  • Must have knowledge of computers and software applications
  • Ability to work independently and work under time pressure and meet time-sensitive deadlines
  • Ability to work with varied populations, such as administrators, teachers, parents, and students
  • Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan fingerprinting) prior to beginning employment.
  • Must present proof of negative Tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux) prior to beginning employment dated within 60 days
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to arrive to work site at scheduled time consistently.  If applicable, will be required to provide proof of current California driver license, acceptable driving record (current DMV H6 printout), and current liability auto insurance.
  • Completion of other required trainings (i.e., worker’s compensation, training against harassment, etc.) when assigned
  • Some evenings and weekends may be required
  • CPR/First Aid Certified (Within 90 Days of Employment)


Part-time, primarily after school hours, some evenings and weekends
