World Premier of "ALI: THE MAN, THE MYTH, THE PEOPLES' CHAMPION"
created and starring Vincent Cook, written by Vincent Cook and Tony
Spires, directed by Tony Spires, opening Friday, September 30, 2005
and running Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. through Saturday, October
29th, 2005, at the Coleman and Smith Artistic Company, 6902 Santa
Monica Boulevard, Hollywood, CA 90038.
What
happens when an actor, former boxer and life long fan of the world's
most recognizable cultural icon actually gets to meet his hero face-to-face,
while working on the epic motion picture that bears his name? Well,
if you're comedian/actor/impressionist Vincent Cook and your hero
is legendary three-time world heavyweight boxing champion/humanitarian
Muhammad Ali, magic happens-magic and a heart-felt labor of love.
In
ALI: The Man, The Myth, The Peoples' Champion, comedian and master
impressionist Vincent Cook, steps off the comedy stage and brings
his unique talent to the theatre in this one-man show that goes beyond
the stories, feature films and documentaries and digs into the soul
of the man loved and respected by millions. Directed by filmmaker,
manager and veteran theatre artist Tony Spires, ALI shares his quiet
moments, his intimate feelings as well as his public triumphs. Outspoken
and larger-than-life, ALI is also a sensitive, thoughtful and oftentimes
comical man who loves humanity and champions world peace. ALI: The
Man, The Myth, The Peoples' Champion, Highlights the Champ's historic
battles in the ring and out and unveils his biggest fight of all.
Comedian
/Actor VINCENT COOK has been in good company for quite some time.
Having worked with Oscar nominated actor Will Smith and Academy Award
winner Jamie Foxx in the movie ALI and Academy Award winning actress
Halle Barry in director Robert Townsend's B.A.P.S., this talented
comedian/actor is rapidly working his way toward Hollywood stardom
and his own starring vehicle. An veteran stand-up comedian and master
impressionist, Vincent is equally at home on the comedy club stage,
the theatre stage or sound stage. His unique abilities and dedication
to craft has given him the opportunity to tour with the late great
Luther Vandross, Patti Labelle, Kenny G, The Temptations, New Edition,
Ray Goodman and Brown and many others. Always busy, Vincent can be
seen this fall in his breakout role as the street-hustler/stand-up
comedian Curt The Tailor, in writer/producer/director Tony Spires'
ode to the Black stand-up comedian, Tears Of A Clown, starring fellow
comedian/actor, from Friday and Friday After Next, Don "D.C."
Curry and up and coming star William L. Johnson.
Director,
TONY SPIRES has been the personal manager to comedian/actors such
as Don D.C. Curry and D.L. Hughley, Laura Hayes and Vincent
Cook. Tony Spires is the Writer/Producer/Director/co-star of the Indie
feature films Two Degrees and the upcoming ode to the Black stand-up
comedian Tears Of A Clown." Hes the writer/producer/director
and star of numerous theatre productions. He's also the founder and
executive producer of the nation's longest-running urban comedy festival,
The Bay Area Black Comedy Competition, celebrating its 20th
Anniversary in 2006.
