Gala Raises Funds to Support the California African American Museum

LOS ANGELES, September 1-"An Artful Evening," the first black tie gala hosted by Friends, the Foundation of the California African American Museum (CAAM), will honor entrepreneur Joe Adams, Olympian Anita DeFrantz and Bank of America's Quentin Strode during a celebration that begins with a 7 p.m. reception Saturday, September 24, 2005, in the museum's Sculpture Court.

"This is our first formal gala and we are looking forward to a sold out event," Friends President L. Charmayne Mills says. "Friends is pleased to have California First Lady Maria Shriver and entertainment producer Suzanne de Passe as co-chairs of our distinguished honorary dinner committee. It is very gratifying to see how many people are joining us in support of this remarkable museum."

Gala tickets are $200 and proceeds benefit the California African American Museum, which researches, collects, preserves and interprets the history, art and culture of African Americans with emphasis on western United States. For dinner and sponsorship information, call 818.787.8742.

Located in Exposition Park, CAAM is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the first Sunday of the month for Target Sundays at CAAM. For additional information about the museum, call 213.744.7432 or visit www.caamuseum.org.
