NAACP "Follow Your Dreams" ESSAY CONTEST IS UNDERWAY
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)
is announcing the fourth annual "Follow Your Dreams" scholarship essay
contest. This year's contestants should read the newly published novel
Ain't No River by author Sharon Ewell Foster.
Kweisi Mfume, President & CEO NAACP called Ain't No River "an entertaining,
yet, soulful inspiring novel about the human condition and the triumphs
and challenges of life…a true depiction of how we always find our
way back home."
The NAACP along with Multnomah Publishers will award two $1,500 scholarships.
Scholarships will be awarded in two age groups 15-18 and over 19 years
of age.
Entrants should submit an essay (maximum of 900 words) after reading
Ain't No River. Essays must focus on one of the following topics:
Expand on the theme "finding your way home" as it is demonstrated
in the story, and how you may have experienced this journey in your
own life. Discuss which character's journey from the story you can
personally relate to and why.
Essays should be typed, double-spaced, and should include the entrant's
address, telephone number, name and age. Completed essays must be
postmarked by April 30, 2001 and mailed to:
