An addiction is generally defined as a habit pattern which produces physiologically and psychologically dependence. Some well meaning proponents of the 12-Step Programs for substance abuse treatment are claiming that "rageaholism" is an addiction to anger. However, no such disorder is recognized nor accepted as a covered disorder by Managed Health Care Organizations. The universally accepted DSM-lV, Manual for Nervous and Mental Disorders does not list "rageaholism" as a pathological condition. Therefore, anger is a lifestyle issue which is not responsive to counseling, psychotherapy nor substance abuse treatment.
