THREE SHOW PRESS RELEASE

The Lula Washington Dance Theatre, fresh from touring in Maui and Hawaii, will present three dance concerts in the greater Los Angeles area at three different theaters in the month of December.

LWDT will make its debut at the Eli and Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica on Dec. 13 at 7:30 pm; followed by concerts at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex on Saturday, Dec. 27 at 8 pm; and at the Lewis Family Playhouse in Rancho Cucamonga, on Sunday, Dec. 28 at 3 pm. Tickets are on sale at each of the theaters and through their web sites.

LWDT’s Broad Stage performances will include the premiere of “The Healing” by Lula Washington, set to live drumming by Malik Sow of Senegal and recorded music by Phillip Glass and Abdullah Ibrahim. The program will also include Washington’s powerful “We Wore The Mask” which celebrates newfound current freedoms among people to celebrate their true identities and feelings; and her popular nostalgic, “Ode To The Sixties” with music by The Beatles, James Brown and Peter Paul and Mary.

Broad Stage audiences will also see Tamica Washington-Miller’s “Beautiful Venus and Serena”, a tribute to the famous tennis sisters. Music will be performed live by Marcus L. Miller’s Freedom Jazz Movement. Harambee Suite, the company’s high-energy Kwanzaa celebration dance, will close out the performance.
