To shift from a food system of exploitation to a food system centered on justice and regeneration we need to follow the leadership of those who are paving the way.

This summer, in partnership with Whole Foods Market, we’re amplifying Black food changemakers who are taking risks to create a healthy, regenerative, and just tomorrow. With listening, with learning, and action in the present, we can move towards a more equitable tomorrow.

On September 3, join us for a story and q+a with Shani Jones of Peaches Patties.

Make a meal and get together with your roommates, your partner, and/or your cat to tune in to this virtual gathering! The Zoom link and a PDF with additional details for how to participate will be available a week prior to the gathering.

About Shani Jones

Shani Jones is the owner and chef of Peaches Patties, one of San Francisco’s few Caribbean food outfits. She named her business after the nickname of her mother, a native of Kingston, Jamaica. The family matriarch moved to the U.S. and married Jones’ New Orleans-born father.

In the Jones household, the cultural collaboration resulted in eclectic dinners: grilled meats with Jamaican flavors served on the same table as Creole stews and gumbos. This spurred Shani’s love of bold spices and culturally rooted recipes. That same passion gave rise to Peaches Patties.

Shani Jones is a San Francisco Native and has her BA in Mass Communications from Clark Atlanta University and her MBA from University of Phoenix.

Listening ears

It’s that simple, we promise!

Why Virtual? It’s in times like these that gathering, sharing, listening, and eating together is most important. Moving our gathering to a virtual format allows us to safely gather with our households and also come together as a larger community online. The flow will mimic our in-person monthly gatherings, we’ll have some time for small group conversation, we’ll ring the singing bowl, listen to the story, have q+a, and end with another connection circle.

New Here? Every month at Real Food Real Stories, we gather together over a meal and a story from a local food changemaker. Why? Our mission is to humanize the food system for a more connected and just tomorrow, and we believe that there isn’t anything quite like food and story to create connections, bridge divides, and shift culture.

Although we can’t all gather together in person, we can gather in our homes to share a meal and tune in to the live story and q+a.
